Cúrsa le Caoimhe returns to Raidió Fáilte for a fourth year running, a unique training course in radio and broadcasting skills by women and for women.

Cúrsa le Caoimhe aims to encourage more women to participate in radio broadcasting and since the course’s inception 4 years ago it has gone from strength to strength providing training in radio skils to over 21 women from across the island and further afield.

Caoimhe Ní Chathail broadcasts with BBC, RTÉ and TG4 as a radio and television presenter and producer.

Cúrsa le Caoimhe will be held online on Zoom every Tuesday 7-9pm 30 January to 20 February. The programmes produced by the participants will be broadcast on Raidió Fáilte as part of a special schedule on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2024.

“I’m really looking forward to providing this online course again this year for another group of capable women starting their journey on Raidió Fáilte, a place where I learned so much as a broadcaster”, said Caoimhe Ní Chathail, “It is a great opportunity for women to produce their own programmes for International Women’s Day, this year. It is a privledge for me to be able to support them and to do my bit to make sure that women’s voices are heard on the airwaves of Raidió Fáilte.”

Some of the women who participated in Cúrsa le Caoimhe previously now work in the media on a fulltime basis or broadcast with Raidió Fáilte and other radio stations.

“The course has been oversubscribed every time it has be held and we anticipate that this year will be the same”, said Dónall Mac Murchaidh, “the Radio Fáilte Productions and Training Officer, therefore we would advise people to apply early in order to gain place on the course.”

To get a place on the course contact Dónall on traenail@raidiofailte.com or call 0044 28 90 310013 before 5pm ón Friday 26 January.

Cúrsa le Caoimhe is provided through the Raidió Fáilte Training Scheme with the support of the Northern Ireland Screen Irish Language Broadcast Fund. A variety of other courses are provided as part of the scheme throughout the year. See https://raidiofailte.com/training for more information.
